Contractor terms

Version: 1 · Last updated: 02/10/2026 · Applies to: builders and trades who receive jobs, quote and get paid through DMSW ("you", the "contractor")

These terms apply with the Platform terms. A builder who hosts an account also accepts the Host terms.

1. Getting paid

1.1 To be paid through DMSW you must complete Stripe onboarding and keep your Stripe account in good standing. You can quote and do work through a guest link before that, but payment can't be released until onboarding is complete.

1.2 You receive the amount the client paid, less DMSW's platform fee, as set out in the host terms or agreed with the host who sent you the job.

2. Your responsibilities

You're responsible for:

  • the quality of your work and meeting the law, including the Building Act 2004, the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and any licensing requirements (for example, using a Licensed Building Practitioner for restricted building work, or a registered electrician or plumber where required)
  • holding appropriate insurance, including public liability cover of at least the minimum set by the admin of the account you work under (shown in DMSW when you sign up)
  • only starting paid work once the platform shows the job as paid
  • giving accurate quotes, including GST if you're registered

3. Proof of completion

You can't mark a job complete without uploading at least the number of after-photos your host requires, and a note describing what you did. These records are shown to the client and end user and may be used as evidence later. They must be genuine photos of the finished work on that job.

4. GST

4.1 If you're GST-registered, your quotes and the tax invoices DMSW issues on your behalf include GST, and you're responsible for returning it.

4.2 If you're not registered, and the host allows non-registered contractors, your quotes won't show GST and the client receives an invoice, not a tax invoice. DMSW's fee still applies to the amount paid. You tell us straight away if you become registered.

5. Chargebacks and refunds

If a client's card payment is reversed, or a refund is made under the host or client terms, DMSW may recover the amount from your future payouts.

6. Working for several hosts

You can use one DMSW account to work for more than one host. Each host sees only the jobs they've sent you.
